Dress Code
CMP Carmichael 2026-2027 Student Dress Code
*LABEL ALL Outer Wear, Backpacks, & Lunch Containers with Student’s Name*
*Parents volunteering on campus or on field trips are asked to also follow the school’s Dress Code to be positive role models for our children and to model mutual respect.
All clothing should be clean and in good condition, expressing no commercialism or distracting media. Shirts made as part of a class project/field trip may be worn.
Montessori education emphasizes the inner development of the child’s mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual being. We also seek to foster positive self-image, individuality, and self-expression. With that in mind, all students are expected to wear clean and appropriate clothing, free of rips and tears, properly fitted, non-violent and non-distracting, and free of commercialism. We seek to limit the undue focus of attention on external appearances.
“Commercialism” in this dress code is defined as characters, symbols, or slogans referring to products, companies, movies, television shows, etc., and is not allowed. Logos/images smaller than 3 x 5 inches are allowed.
Distracting media messages/distracting clothing and accessories are defined as depicting derogatory comments or slogans, gruesome or violent pictures, and/or obscenities and are not allowed (i.e., no Bluey, Five Nights at Freddy’s, Minecraft, K-Pop Demon Hunters, Demon Slayer, etc.).
By limiting commercialized and distracting media on our campus, the aim is for students to positively express their individuality and creativity, while reducing the influence of commercialism in the learning environment and reducing undue focus on external appearances. All children are expected to have access to and follow the dress code regardless of gender.
Bottoms: Pants, skirts and shorts can be any color in a solid, stripe, polka dot, tie-dye or other pattern. Skirts and shorts must be as long as the child’s fingertips with the arms at their sides, or no shorter than mid-thigh. Pants, skirts and shorts should be worn at the waistline and cover all undergarments.
Tops: Shirts, blouses, and tank tops may be worn in any color in a solid, stripe, polka dot, tie-dye, camouflage, floral or other pattern. Shirts are to have at least 3 finger width of material on the shoulder. Spaghetti straps, halter-tops, tube-tops and any top that exposes the midriff or the back are not permitted.
Shoes/Slippers: Athletic shoes are the preferred style of shoe and may have a small logo. Also allowed are flats, oxfords or sandals with an enclosed toe and heel strap. Non-marking soles are required for gym use. Shoes/Slippers should not display any commercialized or distracting media including characters or flashing lights.
