Dear Carmichael Families,
Our 2013-14 school year has come to a close. As I enjoyed looking through our yearbook, I was reminded of so many wonderful community events and learning opportunities for the students this year! Thank you, parents, for all of your support. It all adds up to a great experience for the children.
The work in the 300 wing is nearly completed by the Parks Department, and then we will have the painting and flooring done, and add fire, security and communication systems. The teachers will move in over the summer and create more beautiful Montessori classroom environments for their students.
We are fortunate to have this amazing site with amenities for the students, staff and families: the library, art/music room, the dance/drama room, two science rooms, and two multipurpose rooms. We also have storage space for the teachers (which they love).
The Carmichael Campus has had expenses for upgrading the rooms, as well as the purchase of materials and furniture for new classrooms. These expenses do come out of our budget, though we know these are onetime expenditures. In order to have a balanced budget for next year, class sizes will increase slightly, but we will maintain low student/teacher ratios by continuing to have teaching assistants in the Tk/K through upper elementary classrooms.
The teachers in established classrooms have indicated to me a need for addition materials and furnishings that would be beneficial to their students for next year. However, the funds for these items will not be available in our campus budget, so your help is needed. There are many ways that families can support the campus in order to maintain a balanced budget.
First is attendance. Every day that a student is not in attendance, it impacts our budget, so unless a child is ill and needs to stay home, they should be in school. CMP has made the effort to provide additional time when school is not in session for families to take vacations. Please, plan your weeks off during those intersessions. Even unscheduled three-day weekends affect our funding.
Secondly, your donations help significantly. Every small item is appreciated. Needed items will be listed on the classroom wish lists, and fundraisers will be communicated to you throughout the summer and during the school year.
Lastly, cash donations allow us to make purchases wherever needed. Below is a pledge sheet if you wish to give a cash donation. Donations are to be made to the Montessori Project Foundation, which is a non-profit organization that supports California Montessori Project. After the office receives your donation, you will be sent a letter which can be used for tax purposes.
The staff and I appreciate all that you do for the school. We are all dedicated to providing an amazing, tuition-free Montessori education to the students of CMP-Carmichael. Thank you so very much for your continued support!
Have a fabulous and safe summer break.
